Welcome to the course!
I created this blog to assit students learn English.
Learning a second language has never been that easy with the help of technology.
I invite you to follow the weekly updates and write any comments you may have in regards to the course during the semester 2018-I.
Syllabus
Purpose of Course: This course introduces the fundamentals of the English grammar through the development of the language skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing, and the Use of English. Emphasis is placed on the communication process and in order to achieve this goal is important to learn vocabulary and elemental English structures. NO especific textbook will be used; however, students might want to use TOP NOTCH Fundamentals to complement learning (click on the link to download it)
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-LgwaXgH25LVlI2d1hxOENZOTQ/view?usp=sharing. Other helpful links and learning materials for extra practice will be posted periodically in the blog. Upon completion, students should be able to establish genuine communication skills, demonstrate reading comprehension, and apply basic writing principles.
Attendance: You should attend to every class session. This course is designed for the students to actively participate in class and includes many exercises (worksheets). Please, print these materials and the formatives and bring them to class on due time. I will not sign PAST DUE formatives. In order to participate and get all the necessary information for the exams and/or certificate I strongly encourage you to attend class. I will give you extra credit (1 point) in the exam if you have perfect attendance throughout the entire semester. It is the student’s responsibility to contact the instructor concerning any other problems related to the course.
Class Policies: In order not to disrupt class activities and discussions, please be on time. All cell phones are to be turned off while you are in class. If you have some special situation (such as a family emergency) and need to keep your mobile on, please keep it on “silent/vibrate mode” and leave in silence the classroom to answer the call. This is an exceptional, not a routine, situation. Also, you should NOT TEXT in class! Remember to respect the instructor and other students. Any harsh indiscipline will be immediately reported to the English coordinator.
Continuous Evaluation: There will be 10 WORKSHEETS administered (50%) and two EXAMS (midterm and final) which will be administered during the semester (50%). The minimum passing grade for this course is 7.0. If you missed an exam and do not bring a valid excuse such as adoctor’s note, you will receive a zero for that grade. If you don’t obtain the minimum passing grade, you will have to take the CERTIFICATE.
